LIC Comprehensive Plan

Groundbreaking and innovative in its scope, this first-ever LIC Comprehensive Plan will address how to leverage the tremendous market potential here to not only preserve but also enhance the area as an authentic, mixed-use “city within the City.”

Long Island City is undergoing a period of explosive transformation, much of it thirty years in the making. Historically and increasingly an essential economic driver and source of both good, middle class jobs to local workers as well as goods and services to NYC, and significant affordable housing both existing and new, this key area has never had an overall guiding plan. Prior efforts, some now 30 years old but still relevant, were all geographically limited or sector based.

With support from public and private funders, we have completed Phase 1 of the “LIC Comprehensive Plan” to ensure that the area and the region continue to benefit from LIC’s unique assets both in the near and longer term future.

The LIC Comprehensive Plan and business survey has received pivotal support from:

NYS Senator Michael Gianaris, NYS Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, NYC Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Empire State Development, NYC Regional Economic Development Council, NYC Economic Development Corporation, Consolidated Edison Co. of N.Y., Inc., Cornell Tech, Ford Foundation, TD Charitable Foundation and Verizon Foundation.
