A Special Storytime with Erin McGill
Join Book Culture LIC on Saturday, November 23rd at 11:30am for a special storytime with author Erin McGill, as she reads from her new picture books, Matchy Matchy and I Do Not Like That Name. The reading will be followed by a coloring activity. About Matchy Matchy: MARIA ALWAYS MATCHES, BUT MARIA DOESN'T WANT TO BE SO MATCHY MATCHY. ONE DAY SHE MIXES IT UP IN THIS COLORFUL AND QUIRKY PICTURE BOOK. Thanks to Mom, everything about Maria matches—her clothes, her socks, her underwear, her backpack, and her lunchbox. Maria even matches the dog, the duvet, and the doilies. But Maria doesn’t want to be so matchy matchy. She wants to mix it up! Feathers and fringe! Pom-poms and plaid! Spikes and spots! Leopard and lace! Tie-dye and tutus! One day she does just that and asserts her very own unique style. About I Do Not Like That Name: This funny picture book about friendship, family, identity, and why we have names is illustrated with bright collage art and is a perfect selection for story time. What’s in a name? Herb and Sophie are eating breakfast one day when they notice a coupon on the cereal box for an elephant. Imagine how much fun they could have with an elephant! When the nameless elephant arrives in the mail, he announces that it is Herb and Sophie’s job to name him. Herb has many suggestions (String Bean, Sweet Potato) and so does Sophie (Buttercup, Twinkle Toes) but nothing seems quite right to the huge and very brave elephant. Why do we need names anyway? Where do names come from? Where did your name come from? How do you make your name your own? Erin McGill earned a BFA from Pratt Institute, where she discovered her love of patterns, textiles, and collage, just like Maria. She lives in New York City.
