SUMMARY:Bonsai Beginner Workshop at The Greats of Craft - LIC
DESCRIPTION:Beginner workshops are perfect for you to grab your friends\, grab a drink and come make tiny trees! We’re bringing the awesome art of bonsai out of the hedged in gardens and into the streets! Or at least into your favorite bars/breweries/pubs. Bonsai Bar is a night of fun you don’t want to miss. Learn the fundamental skills and techniques behind the art of bonsai while enjoying a night out with friends! Our teachers will introduce core concepts and guide your experience as you pot\, prune\, and design your very own bonsai tree! Our Guarantee: These tiny trees are so hardy we guarantee you can keep yours alive\, or we’ll replace it. \nThis workshop will be hosted at The Greats of Craft – LIC. The table is a magical place. It transcends languages\, cultures\, and religions. It’s a place to come together\, to share\, and to enjoy. For as long as I can remember\, I’ve wanted to set a table that felt safe\, welcoming\, and warm. The world of craft beer can be intimidating for many\, myself included. The Greats of Craft (GoC) was borne from a desire to create something centered around exploring new experiences collaboratively. Friends and family came together to help build the literal and figurative foundations of our shop. Still to this day\, you’ll likely run into a family member working behind the bar or a close friend starting the day with a cup of coffee or enjoying a drink in the evening. I’ve always admired artists and creatives who are passionate about their work\, and I wanted GoC to also represent artisans and entrepreneurs who have taken the same leap of faith as I did. Regardless if you’re pulling up a chair or ordering online\, you can trust we only set our tables with items and goodies of the finest quality. Whether you first stopped at GoC to attend one of our events\, pick up a gift\, drink your morning cappuccino\, or just catch up with friends over drinks\, you’ll always have a seat at our table. \nUnder 21 policy: Please contact The Greats of Craft – LIC for details regarding underage entry \nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/the-greats-of-craft-lic \n  \n  \nHappens on the following Dates: \n\nJan 30\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nFeb 13\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nFeb 27\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nMar 13\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\n\nMar 27\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST

SUMMARY:ASMA Guest Performances and Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join artist duo ASMA for a book launch followed by guest performances that animate the theatrical setting of their SculptureCenter exhibition Ideal Space for Music. \nASMA’s recent publication Ibidem is an artist book made in collaboration with designer Olga Borda\, as the fourth edition of the annual magazine series Obra. It includes fragmented research citations and installation images of their recent exhibitions: Wander & Pursuit (2022)\, Inverse Sátiro Envy (2023)\, Blind Sun Rests in Desire (2023)\, and their SculptureCenter exhibition\, plus a commissioned text by Reilly Davidson. \nFollowing the launch\, the event will move to SculptureCenter’s lower level\, where artist and ventriloquist Sophie Becker energizes and gives new life to ASMA’s ball-jointed dolls. The event will culminate in a full-room sound activation by Esra Canoğulları (8ulentina) made in dialogue with ASMA. \nPlease RSVP here. \n_________________ \nASMA is a Mexico City-based artist duo formed by Matias Armendaris and Hanya Beliá. Their work uses allegorical figures and evocative architectural spaces\, exploring formal interrelations between painterly and sculptural expressions. They employ fictional narratives that include forms of nature interwoven with psychoaffective contemporary landscapes. As a result of a collaborative process\, the work focuses on hybrid and polluted forms\, both in a material and conceptual nature. They explore a nostalgic revisitation of the past through a metamodern lens that oscillates between critical discourses of identity and belonging and ornate formal explorations of beauty. \nASMA’s recent solo exhibitions include Inverse Sátiro Envy I & II\, PEANA\, Mexico City; Blind Sun Rests in Desire\, Everyday Gallery\, Antwerp\, BEL; The Last of Animal Builders\, Edith Farnsworth House\, Illinois\, US; Wander & Pursuit\, House of Gaga\, Los Angeles; Vermin Gloom\, Project Pangeé\, Montreal; Vain Kisses to the Source\, Deli Gallery\, New York; Janus\, Embajada\, San Juan\, PR; Half Blood Princess\, PEANA\, Monterrey\, MX; Blossoming Carcass\, Make Room\, Los Angeles. Recent group show exhibitions include Who Tells a Tale Adds a Tail\, Denver Art Museum\, Denver; OTRXS MUNDXS\, Museo Tamayo\, Mexico City; and Anima Mundi\, Manifiesta 13\, Marseille\, FR. \nObra is an annual magazine—an archive of visual expressions generating a record of young and established practices from Latin America and the world through the printed format. Founded and established in Basel\, Switzerland\, and distributed globally. \nSophie Becker is an artist and ventriloquist based in New York City. She has performed with her Jerry Mahoney figure at MoMA PS1\, NADA Miami\, Art Omi\, Rockaway Film Festival\, Chez Bushwick's RECESS Programming\, Pageant Space\, Blade Study Gallery\, and Theatre 80 St Marks\, among others. \nEsra Canoğullari\, also known as 8ULENTINA\, is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist\, music producer\, and DJ. Renowned for his dynamic DJ sets and genre-defying compositions\, Canoğullari’s projects are characterized by percussive intensity and diasporic storytelling. Canoğullari cofounded CLUB CHAI (2016–21)\, a record label and curatorial platform\, with Lara Sarkissian and currently runs SILLAGE\, a platform for contemporary sonic artifacts.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Molding a Community: The Plaxall Family Legacy at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Thursday\, January 30\, 6-9pm. Free Admission. \nMolding a Community: The Plaxall Family Legacy is an art exhibition that honors the transformative history of Plaxall and its impact on Long Island City. This unique showcase celebrates the pioneering spirit of Plaxall’s founder\, Louis Pfohl\, whose innovation in thermoforming plastics helped shape industries and communities for generations. \nOn view are original molds\, equipment\, and artifacts from the Plaxall factory\, offering a rare glimpse into the craftsmanship and ingenuity behind its revolutionary processes. \nAccompanying these artifacts is a photographic series and a compelling short documentary by filmmaker Steven Speliotis\, capturing Plaxall’s legacy and its enduring connection to Long Island City. \nThis exhibition invites us to reflect on Long Island City's remarkable journey\, from its roots as an industrial powerhouse to its vibrant present as a hub for art\, culture\, and community. As the neighborhood continues to evolve\, Molding a Community reminds us of the importance of preserving and celebrating our shared history while embracing creativity as the foundation for the future. \nThe story of Plaxall exemplifies how industrial spaces can evolve to meet the needs of changing times while preserving their historical significance. In honoring Plaxall’s history we acknowledge its contributions to this community and showcase how innovation\, artistry\, and resilience continue to define Long Island City. \nOn view: January 30 – March 2\, during gallery hours: Thursday & Friday\, 5-9pm\, and Saturday & Sunday\, 2-9pm

SUMMARY:Skimming the Surface: VIRTUAL Movement Healing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be held on ZOOM and will be with a donation-based! \nTo REGISTER\, please visit https://secure.lglforms.com/form…/s/eemGIcqVO7-ftIGJNXB7gg. \n  \nSkimming the Surface: Movement Healing Workshops aim to service adult and youth populations that may be overcoming diverse forms of trauma and stress through somatic based expressive movement exercises. These workshops will help participants release blocked and repressed energy causing stress or discomfort in one’s life by integrating movement\, feelings\, and emotions. \nThe workshop helps participants confront emotional wounds and bring them to the surface in a gentle and compassionate way. When using the language of movement rather than words\, different images or emotions may arise\, which bypass the controlling and censoring mind. This experience leaves participants feeing expanded and curious about their emotions\, with new insights to move forward from. \nEach movement journey is handcrafted to best support the participants. Green serves as a guide to help open doorways where each individual will do their personal work\, leading them to a heart centered and intuitive place\, finding a physical expression and release of emotions and energy whereby a healing process can begin

Cuisine from Java! \n  \nJoin Andrew Suseno of Moving Rasa\, & Chef Shandra Woworuntu of Selera Kitchen for a Special Private Dining Event & Workshop! \n  \nJoin us for an unforgettable evening in a welcoming home in Astoria as we explore the Flavors of Java through movement\, taste\, and connection. This unique collaboration between Moving Rasa\, created by Andrew Suseno\, and the esteemed Shandra Woworuntu invites you to sharpen your food tasting experiences by deepening your discernment of Rasa. \nIn Indonesian\, Rasa means taste\, as we will do with Javanese food—but it also refers to the emergent essence that arises in any relationship we encounter in life. The practice of Moving Rasa creates playful\, embodied spaces—mini laboratories—that encourage us to question how we receive\, savor\, and engage with our experiences. Through movement improvisation and interactive games\, we explore presence\, boundary-making\, and the art of relishing life’s flavors. \n  \nImmerse yourself in: \nThe rich culinary flavors (rasa) of Java\, crafted with care and storytelling by Shandra Woworuntu. Movement explorations led by Andrew Suseno\, creator of Moving Rasa\, inviting you to attune your body and senses to the experience of Rasa. The rich interweaving of two different approaches to Rasa into one shared experience. This is more than a tasting; it's an opportunity to reconnect to yourself\, your body\, and the stories carried by flavors and movement. \nAbout the Hosts: \nShandra Woworuntu is a celebrated chef known for blending her Indonesian heritage with culinary creativity\, using food as a medium to inspire and empower others.
