SUMMARY:Artist Talk | Cevdet Erek: Sounds\, Artworks\, Words
DESCRIPTION:Part artist talk\, part live mix\, Cevdet Erek opens up the channels of his exhibition at SculptureCenter\, its references\, historical echoes\, and sonic materials\, by presenting a sequence of music samples\, images\, and research fragments in dialogue with the works on view. \nAs space is limited\, please RSVP here if you plan to attend:\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScvQXi7ZzsjPHW5MitFHdOzWD1jyQe2murOoSTUNzz28GyDpw/viewform?pli=1 \n________________ \nAbout the Exhibition | “Cevdet Erek: Americas”\n“Americas” arranges five of Cevdet Erek’s site-specific sonic works developed in the last decade alongside a new commission for SculptureCenter. Reworking and rechanneling the murmurs of his previous installations into a new compilation\, Erek will create a rhythmic structure that synchronizes with the textures of SculptureCenter’s labyrinthine lower level. His immersive sonic installations distribute multiple frequencies that hold fragmentary chords\, custom-built speakers amplify architectural features\, and refashioned measuring rulers quantify and make physical beats of time. His site-specific commission will consider two possibly overlapping histories rooted in New York City: the emergence of heavy underground music in the 1980s and “Sound/Art\,” a 1984 exhibition at SculptureCenter that contributed to the definition of sound art as a genre. \n“Cevdet Erek: Americas” is curated by Jovanna Venegas\, Curator.

SUMMARY:Design\, Drama\, Murals and Music: Sunnyside Arts and Culture Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Architects and city planners have long celebrated Sunnyside’s Art Deco buildings and the historic Sunnyside Gardens district\, but everyone can appreciate the many sights and stories of the neighborhood’s culture and creativity. This tour traces some highlights\, from Thalia Spanish Theater (the first and only bilingual Hispanic theater in Queens)\, the Bliss Theater (a rare surviving example of an Egyptian Revival movie palace)\, and iconic Sunnyside Arch\, to murals and memorials commemorating pioneers of folk\, jazz\, and punk rock. Stops along the way include treasures of progressive urban housing design\, as well as galleries and storefronts that are showcasing artists in this close-knit community just a 20-minute subway ride from Grand Central Station. \nSunnyside Shines BID was one of HDC’s 2025 Six to Celebrate priorities – New York’s only targeted citywide list of preservation priorities that provides strategies and resources to neighborhood groups at a critical moment to reach their preservation goals.

SUMMARY:Fall 2026 Opening Reception | Aziz Hazara\, Cevdet Erek\, and Yining Fei
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free opening reception on Sat\, Sep 19\, 2-4pm to celebrate SculptureCenter’s new fall solo exhibitions by Aziz Hazara\, Cevdet Erek\, and Yining Fei (all on view from Sep 19–Dec 28\, 2026). \nAziz Hazara: Coming Home\n“Aziz Hazara: Coming Home” seeks to return material discarded in Afghanistan following the American military’s abrupt withdrawal. At SculptureCenter\, the hundreds of items comprising “Coming Home” offer a glimpse into the material remnants of a war waged on the other side of the world. Cumulatively\, they record everyday life in a military outpost\, bringing into focus the massive human\, environmental\, and material dimensions of a conflict that Americans primarily experienced through images. Although the exhibition consists of debris—discarded objects from a distant site—it serves as an active and durational engagement with the simple gesture of return\, complicated by the infrastructure and legacies of US intervention. \n“Aziz Hazara: Coming Home” is curated by Sohrab Mohebbi\, Director. \nCevdet Erek: Americas\n“Americas” arranges five of Cevdet Erek’s site-specific sonic works developed in the last decade alongside a new commission for SculptureCenter. \nYining Fei: Feral Sediment\nFeral Sediment centers on the milu\, a rare species of deer native to China\, whose survival has been mediated by captivity\, diplomacy\, and modern infrastructure. The exhibition originates in Yining Fei’s observations of the morphological similarities between the lining of the deer’s digestive organs and aerial views of industrialized landscapes\, a coincidence that opens an inquiry into what separates wildness from domestication. Working across sculpture\, moving image\, and installation\, Fei constructs the deer’s interior organs as a cosmos in miniature\, a space where the biological and the artificial\, the intimate and the planetary\, converge. \n“Yining Fei: Feral Sediment” is curated by Sharon X. Liu\, Asymmetry Curatorial Fellow. \nFor more information\, please visit:\nhttps://www.sculpture-center.org/events/14958/aziz-hazara-cevdet-erek-and-yining-fei-opening-reception

SUMMARY:Fall Equinox 108 Sun Salutations Yoga Challenge Fun
DESCRIPTION:Fall Equinox Celebration: 108 Sun Salutations \nJoin us outdoors at Gantry Plaza Park as we mark the Fall Equinox — a moment of balance\, light and dark meeting — with the traditional practice of 108 Sun Salutations. We’ll move through the sequence together at a pace that honors every body\, then close with a deeply restful Yoga Nidra sound bath\, followed by warm seasonal bites and refreshing drinks to enjoy together as the afternoon light turns golden. \nInspired by traditional practices in India\, this gathering is a moving meditation — a chance to clear\, reset\, and gather in your own light before the season turns inward. No perfection required. Just presence.\n🍂 \nIt begins simply— one breath\, one movement\, one intention. \nSomewhere around 30\, you’re in a groove. Around 60\, you’re questioning your life choices. By 80\, you can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. And by the end… something shifts. \nYou move through resistance. You meet yourself in real time. And on the other side\, there’s a steadiness— a quiet clarity that wasn’t there before. \nCome for the practice\, stay for the afterglow bliss and veggie bites ✨ \nUse code “EarlyBirdSun” for $10 off your registration by August 20. \nWant to prep before going all in? Join us for 4 free training sessions on Sundays before our Bliss Hatha Yoga Sunday class — we’ll gradually build up to 108\, so you arrive ready.

SUMMARY:SUZIK at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:South Korean company Force defies gravity in this street circus performance and NYC premiere. \nSuzik—the Korean word for verticality—is a Chinese pole performance that reimagines the vertical as a space of connection\, trust\, and collective movement. Three performers navigate the precarious heights of the pole\, entering a world where balance depends on the presence\, strength\, and care of others. \nAgainst the force of gravity\, Suzik explores a different way of moving upward: not through individual ascent\, but through shared momentum. The performers reach\, support\, and respond to one another\, transforming moments of risk into acts of trust and possibility. \nABOUT THE FESTIVAL\nCitizen Arts International transforms New York City’s public spaces into vibrant stages for free international performance\, participatory art\, and cultural exchange. Bringing art into everyday life across the boroughs\, the festival fosters civic engagement and strengthens social connection. \nThe Citizen Arts International Festival is produced in partnership with Citizen Arts and Education and the Ukrainian Museum\, in affiliation with Social Practice CUNY\, with special thanks to the PhD Theatre + Performance Program at the CUNY Graduate Center. \nSaturday\, September 12\, 3 – 3:30pm \nReserve a Spot: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/suzik-queens-registration-1997566389845

SUMMARY:The Longest Table
DESCRIPTION:It started with a simple idea: pull up a chair. \nWe live in a moment of deep disconnection. Neighbors don’t know each other’s names. Loneliness is at an all-time high. And the things that once brought us together — shared meals\, open doors\, public life — have quietly faded. \nThe Longest Table began as a response to that. Not with a grand program or a policy agenda\, but with a table\, some food\, and an open invitation. \nRenew Queens will be partnering with Wellspring Church and Manducatis Rustica for a free event for our neighbors\, The Longest Table. Hundreds of neighbors sharing one big meal with all right on 46th Road (between Vernon and 11th Street) \n1. Sign up here to join so we can have a chair for everyone.\n2. Join us on 46th Road at noon and find a seat at a table\n3. Enjoy a meal together and get to know your neighbors. \nWe can’t wait to see you there!
