SUMMARY:Restorative Sound Bath for Colombia Earthquake Relief Efforts
DESCRIPTION:Sound Bath — Restorative Evening Journey \nMonthly\, on the last Sunday of the month. \nA full-body listening practice using singing bowls\, flutes\, indigenous instruments\, shruti box\, and more — layered live to guide your nervous system from “on” to deeply “off.” \nFor our first monthly Sound Bath we are dedicating the session to Colombia and all who were affected by the earthquake. It’s donation-based\, with all proceeds going toward earthquake relief efforts in Colombia. \nWhat happened? \nOn August 10th\, a massive 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia\, centered near San José del Palmar in the Chocó region. It’s the strongest earthquake to hit the country in decades. Hundreds of people have died\, thousands more have been injured\, and tens of thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed. Entire communities — many already among Colombia’s most under-resourced — are now without stable shelter\, clean water\, or access to basic health care. Rescue and relief efforts are still ongoing. \nWhat You’ll Experience \nYou’ll lie down\, get comfortable\, and let the sound do the work. No movement\, no effort — just resonance washing over you in waves. The vibrations from crystal and metal singing bowls\, breathy overtones from wooden and bamboo flutes\, the steady drone of the shruti box\, and instruments drawn from indigenous healing traditions work together to slow your brainwaves\, calm your nervous system\, and release tension stored deep in the body. \nSound bath is one of the most accessible forms of meditation — you don’t need to “clear your mind\,” you just need to lie down and receive. \nMany people report:\n– Deep physical and mental relaxation\n– Reduced stress\, anxiety\, and racing thoughts\n– Better sleep in the days following\n– Release of tension held in the body\n– A reset for the nervous system after a demanding stretch of life \nBring a mat\, blanket\, and anything that helps you get cozy.

SUMMARY:Día de los Muertos Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Día de los Muertos Celebration & Cacao Ceremony \nJoin us for our 3rd annual Día de los Muertos celebration\, an evening to remember\, honor\, and stay connected with our loved ones who have transcended. \nAbout Día de los Muertos\nDía de los Muertos is a living tradition rooted in pre-Hispanic rituals\, with origins reaching back more than 3\,000 years to the Indigenous peoples of the Americas\, including the Olmec\, Maya\, and Aztec\, who honored death as a natural part of life’s cycle. On November 1st and 2nd\, the spirits of the departed are believed to return home to spend time with their families. \nTo welcome them\, altars are built with offerings that each carry meaning: \n– Candles to guide the souls to the altar \n– Marigolds (cempasúchil)\, the flower of the dead for the Aztecs. Its name comes from the Nahuatl for “twenty flowers\,” and its golden petals were said to hold the warmth of the sun \n– Water to quench the thirst of souls after their long journey \n– Incense to mark the passage from life to death and keep away unwelcome spirits \n– Pan de muerto\, a sweet bread that honors the generosity of the family \n– Favorite foods and drinks to delight the departed \n– Photographs of the loved ones being honored \n– Sugar skulls (calaveras)\, sometimes inscribed with a loved one’s name\, as playful reminders that life and death live side by side \nOur Celebration\nWe’ll gather for a cacao ceremony and a traditional Mexica Día de los Muertos celebration centered around a three-tiered altar. Place photos of your family members and beloved pets on the altar\, along with food offerings for your loved ones. The evening includes ceremonial smudging and live music. \nWhat to bring: \n– Candles and marigolds \n– Photos of your loved ones who have passed \n– Food offerings for your loved ones \n– A ceremonial cup or your favorite drinking cup \n– Traditional ceremonial or Mexica attire is welcome\, and you’re invited to paint your face as a sugar skull. \nCome as you are\, wherever you are in your connection with your transcended loved ones and leave feeling held by community and ancestral love. \nWe are offering this on sliding scale contribution to support celebration materials\, cacao\, decorations and the team.

SUMMARY:5 Boro Foto Fest at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:A Collaboration between The Phoblographer\, Corse Design\, Mallon Productions\, and Culture Lab LIC \nThe First Ever 5 Boro Foto Fest Brings Local Photographers and Authenticity; Only Original Prints and Guaranteed No Generative AI. \n5 Boro Foto Fest aims to do for the arts something that hasn’t been done before: giving local photographers their own artist’s alley-type festival for them to bring authenticity to the masses. \nJoining the photographers will be galleries\, photo collectives\, and indie storefronts will gather to exhibit printed collectibles for sale. These include fine art prints\, zines\, books\, mixed media\, and various other ways that photographs are brought to life. \n“I’ve been looking around at the world of photography and saw the threat that generative AI poses to replace us\,” said Chris Gampat\, the founder and Editor in Chief of the Phoblographer as well as the founder of the 5 Boro Foto Fest. “This event is designed to remind people that photographers are capable of making your jaw drop with moments that you don’t even notice every day.” \nThe 5 Boro Foto Fest\, which has free entry\, will bring together both new and famous photographers along with galleries\, inclusive collectives\, and even some of your favorite bookstores that sell art books. Expect to take home prints to hang on your wall\, zines to keep by your desk\, books to adorn on your coffee table\, and other artistic creations using photographs. \nSunday\, Oct 25\, 11am – 6pm \nMore Info & RSVP: https://events.humanitix.com/5-boro-foto-fest

SUMMARY:Maya Cacao Workshop | Living with Cacao & the Maya Calendar
DESCRIPTION:Maya Cacao Workshop | Living with Cacao & the Maya Calendar\nAn afternoon to learn the language the days have always been speaking. \nTeaching and ceremonial cacao circle — at Ray of Bliss\, Long Island City. \nWith Andrea of Ray of Bliss & Hans Austin\nSunday\, October 18\, 2026 · 12:30 – 4:30 PM \nNo experience needed. Just a willingness to learn a new way of reading time. \nWhy a day like this \nYou’ve probably felt it — some days flow\, and some days fight you\, and you’ve never known why. \nThe Maya never treated time as empty or neutral or just something in the background. Every day carries its own energy\, its own nawal\, its own instructions for how to move through it. Once you can read that language\, you stop guessing your way through your weeks and start working with them. \nWhy the Maya Calendar matters \nThe Maya believe there are 20 core aspects of the human experience\, and the calendar is organized around this cycle — 20 days\, each led by a different nawal. Each nawal gives you a focal point: a lens for reflecting on your own personality\, understanding where you’re in balance\, where you need strengthening\, and how to recognize when you’ve drifted out of harmony with yourself. \nHow cacao meets the calendar \nCacao and the Cholq’ij have always moved together. In the Maya tradition\, cacao is medicine\, prayer\, and messenger — an ally that calms the mind into the heart’s wisdom so the teachings of the day can actually land in the body\, not just the mind. \nWhen you pair cacao with a nawal’s energy\, you get access to something rare: an honest\, objective\, non-judgmental view of yourself — which parts of your life are balanced\, which need strengthening\, and what action to take to bring things back into harmony. You’ll learn a simple practice for meditating with cacao and the nawal energy of the day\, one you can return to with any nawal\, on any day\, for the rest of your life. \nWho this is for\n– You love cacao — you’ve been to cacao circles\, you’ve heard about the nawales and now you want a deeper connection with both. \n– Already practicing\, wanting depth — you know your nawal or have dabbled in the Cholq’ij\, and want to understand how to use it daily. \n– A healer\, teacher\, or facilitator — looking for another lens for your own work with clients or students. \n– Curious but new — you’ve heard “Mayan calendar” and pictured 2012 predictions\, and you want the real\, living tradition instead. \n– At a threshold — starting a new chapter and wanting a framework for moving through it with intention. \nHow the workshop holds you \n– Arrive & settle · from 3:30 PM — land\, breathe\, meet your circle \n– Cacao Circle — an opening ceremonial cacao circle \n– The teaching — how the Cholq’ij works: the 20 nawales\, the cycles\, how to read your own days including a guided practice for meditating with cacao and the day’s nawal \n– Closing Reflections — a pause to reflect on what was learned and how to integrate. \nThe Cacao Circle Energy \n🌱 Under the Energy of 9 Toj\, we honor and strengthen intentions around: \nFor what is completing its cycle. As 9 marks the end of gestation\, it also marks the threshold before emergence. \nFor the fire that purifies and remembers. Toj’s element is fire — the fire of discernment\, the fire that burns away what is no longer true. \nFor what has been carried too long. Toj is the nawal of payment and sacred exchange — we bring to the fire and the cacao all that we’ve been holding\, so it can find its completion. \n(Full teaching on 9 Toj shared in ceremony.) \nYour Guides \nHans Austin and Andrea Bertucci have studied together under Nana Marina Cruz\, Maya Spiritual Guide\, since 2023 — the year they began their shared journey into the Maya Calendar and cacao. They are part of the first group of students Nana Marina has taken to train and guide in the Maya Cosmovision\, cacao as medicine and the Maya Calendar. Since then\, they’ve traveled to Guatemala every year to continue learning directly from the living Maya traditions still practiced today\, and have been initiated on the Camino del Fuego as guardians of Maya Cosmovision\, cacao\, and the sacred fire. \nAlong with these practices\, Andrea brings over 1\,000 certified training hours in traditional yoga and has taught worldwide since 2016. Hans is also a sound healer\, weaving that practice into the ceremonial container they hold together. \nThey hold this space the way they were taught to hold it — with reverence for the lineage and warmth for whoever walks through the door. \nWhat you’ll take home\n– A working knowledge of the Cholq’ij\, “Maya Lunar Calendar\,” and how to read your own days \n– A simple cacao-and-nawal meditation practice you can use for the rest of your life \n– Your Maya Calendar Journal\, to keep tracking the energies on your own \n– Your Personal Maya Natal Astrology Chart\, revealing the nawal you were born under \n– A grounded\, open heart from the cacao circle \nA few things people wonder \n– Never done this? — will I feel out of place? Not at all. Built for beginners\, and deepens for anyone already familiar with the calendar and cacao. \n– What Is cacao? Cacao is a gentle mind relaxer\, closer to rich hot chocolate\, think of it as 100% dark chocolate. (Pregnant\, nursing\, a heart condition\, or on antidepressants? Let us know and we’ll prepare a lighter\, cacao tea or cacao-free option.) \n– Do I need to know my nawal already? No — you’ll receive your personal natal chart as part of the workshop. \n– Can I come alone? Most people do. \nWhat’s included \nCacao circle · Maya Calendar Journal · Personal Maya Natal Astrology Chart \nWhen & where \nSunday\, October 18\, 2026 · 12:30 – 4:30 PM\nRay of Bliss\, Long Island City\, Queens \nConscious contribution — sliding scale \nSliding scale starting at $150\, with a Conscious Contribution rate of $200.\nMembers: 33% off with your code. Package holders: 18% off with your code.
