SUMMARY:Tess Dworman - Everything Must Go
DESCRIPTION:Tess DwormanEverything Must Go\nDecember 12-14\, 2024\n7pm \nPerformances will take place at The Chocolate Factory Theater\, 38-33 24th Street\, Long Island City. \nEverything Must Go is a dance theater work that emerges from satirical questioning into the consumption of experimental performance. It examines the ways in which capitalism provokes a savior complex in artists\, urging us to demonstrate goodness amidst crisis. My investigation into persona and the solo improvisational form continues with this stark inhabitation of character and an inventory of feeling inside the power play between performer and audience. A teacher becomes a life coach becomes The Artist becomes your mom. The work lays bare the tangential renewal of live performance. \nChoreographed and Performed by Tess Dworman. Co-performed by Sonya Gadet Molansky and Ned Riseley. \nEverything Must Go was first presented by Pageant in November 2023. \nThis project was developed as part of Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Arts Center Residency program. It was supported\, in part\, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant.

SUMMARY:Skimming the Surface: Movement Healing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be held at Green Space with a donation-based\, pay-what-you-can entry fee. \nTo RSVP please email programs@greenspacestudio.org. \nSkimming the Surface: Movement Healing Workshops aim to service adult and youth populations that may be overcoming diverse forms of trauma and stress through somatic based expressive movement exercises. These workshops will help participants release blocked and repressed energy causing stress or discomfort in one’s life by integrating movement\, feelings\, and emotions. \nThe workshop helps participants confront emotional wounds and bring them to the surface in a gentle and compassionate way. When using the language of movement rather than words\, different images or emotions may arise\, which bypass the controlling and censoring mind. This experience leaves participants feeing expanded and curious about their emotions\, with new insights to move forward from. \nEach movement journey is handcrafted to best support the participants. Green serves as a guide to help open doorways where each individual will do their personal work\, leading them to a heart centered and intuitive place\, finding a physical expression and release of emotions and energy whereby a healing process can begin.

SUMMARY:Ren Faire with director Lance Oppenheim in person
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Lance Oppenheim.  2024\, 172 mins (3 episodes). U.S. DCP. For half a century\, George Coulam\, known to his employees as King George\, has reigned with an iron fist over the Texas Renaissance Festival\, the largest “faire” in the world. As he turns 86\, he realizes it’s time to find a romantic partner\, settle down\, and pick a successor for his medieval-themed empirefrom his pool of longtime employees. Subject to the gaze of director Lance Oppenheim (Some Kind of Heaven)\, Coulam’s succession machinations are both baroquely theatrical and earthilycandid. Since everyone in the troupe is a performer\, there’s a collaborative synergy between their real lives and the documentary’s ripe stylizations\, culminating in a Shakespearean—orRoy-esque—denouement that does not disappoint. \n

SUMMARY:Artist & Curator Talk: Afterlives with Álvaro Urbano\, Jess Wilcox\, and Jeremy Johnston
DESCRIPTION:Álvaro Urbano: TABLEAU VIVANT builds a speculative bridge in time and space between artists\, sites\, and choreographies of public and private life. For his exhibition at SculptureCenter\, artist Álvaro Urbano focuses on a potential ruin\, or a ruin in progress: Atrium Furnishment\, a public artwork from 1984–85 by the American sculptor Scott Burton (1939–1989) that was rescued from destruction and now faces an uncertain future. \nJoin Urbano and independent curators Jess Wilcox and Jeremy Johnston for a three-part afternoon program on Urbano’s exhibition\, its restaging of the marble material of Burton’s almost-lost artwork\, and new perspectives on the life and work of Scott Burton by two curators whose efforts have deepened our understanding the many issues in contemporary art Burton’s legacy incites. \nÁlvaro Urbano Artist Talk \nÁlvaro Urbano introduces TABLEAU VIVANT (his current exhibition at SculptureCenter\, on view Sep 19\, 2024–Mar 24\, 2025) and the ongoing artistic concerns that guide his work across media and through histories of art\, architecture\, and environment. \nÁlvaro Urbano is a Madrid-born and Berlin-based artist whose site-responsive practice involves an archeology of desires and past intentions. Formally trained as an architect\, Urbano draws on affective responses to built environments\, excavating narratives that are embedded in these built bodies. The exercise of recreating and reframing art\, architecture\, and literature becomes an intimate exploration of the subjectivity of other artists and the social contexts in which their spaces were considered functional\, innovative\, or condemned to oblivion. \nJess Wilcox on Scott Burton \nJess Wilcox is an independent curator based in New York City and the Hudson Valley. She is the curator of Scott Burton: Shape Shift\, the most comprehensive exhibition of Scott Burton’s work ever mounted in the United States\, on view at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation in St. Louis from Sep 6\, 2024–Feb 2\, 2025. \nJess Wilcox’s curatorial work has a focus on sculpture\, ecocritical and public art. From 2016 to 2022\, she was Curator and Director of Exhibitions at Socrates Sculpture Park. From 2011 to 2015\, she worked at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum. Wilcox has held positions at MoMA\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, Performa\, Abrons Art Center\, and SculptureCenter. She has a BA from Barnard College and an MA from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. At SculptureCenter\, Wilcox curated In Practice: Under Foundations as Curatorial Fellow in 2015. \nJeremy Johnston on Atrium Furnishment: removal\, afterlife\, future \nCurator Jeremy Johnston saved Scott Burton’s Atrium Furnishment (1984–85) from near destruction during a renovation of Equitable Center in 2020. From within Álvaro Urbano’s restaging of elements of Burton’s work\, Johnston reflects on Burton’s legacy and how to understand art objects after they have “ended” – whether through conservation\, archival work\, reprisals\, reenactments\, or other sustaining strategies. \nJeremy Johnston is a founding member of Darling Green\, a collaborative curatorial practice\, which has worked with the United Nations\, Bard Graduate Center\, Philadelphia Museum of Art\, MoMA PS1\, Museum for African Art\, Performa\, and American Folk Art Museum. He is Curator of the Equitable Art Collection and a core faculty member of the The Interdisciplinary Art and Theory program. Darling Green’s work on Scott Burton’s Atrium Furnishment has been developed in collaboration with Soft Network.

SUMMARY:Green Friday Weekend Sale
DESCRIPTION:Black Friday\, never heard of her! \n Keep some green in your pocket while putting green back into your community this GREEN Friday weekend with 50% OFF EVERYTHING in-store!   \n️ Fri 11/29 through Sun 12/1\n 5-38 46th Avenue LIC Queens\, NY 11101 \nFor many folks\, Black Friday makes us think of intense crowds\, lack luster "deals"\, and consumeristic waste. Shopping this season with Remix Market is a choice toward change for good. Help us rehome our stock\, saved from the landfill thanks to the Junkluggers of NYC\, that's already deeply discounted before this weekend's huge sale! \nAnd feel good doing it. A portion of our sales goes to Habitat for Humanity while the rest helps keep our in-house Non-Profit program giving back locally 5 days a week! \n  \nWhether a gift for yourself or for others\, spread the love with us this 3 day weekend. We can't wait to see y'all!
