SUMMARY:Día de los Muertos Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Día de los Muertos Celebration\nSliding Scale\nRay of Bliss • NY | Monday\, Nov 2 • 06:00 PM – 09:00 PM EDT\nwith Andrea & Sandra & Hans \nDía de los Muertos Celebration & Cacao Ceremony \nJoin us for our 3rd annual Día de los Muertos celebration\, an evening to remember\, honor\, and stay connected with our loved ones who have transcended. \nAbout Día de los Muertos\nDía de los Muertos is a living tradition rooted in pre-Hispanic rituals\, with origins reaching back more than 3\,000 years to the Indigenous peoples of the Americas\, including the Olmec\, Maya\, and Aztec\, who honored death as a natural part of life’s cycle. On November 1st and 2nd\, the spirits of the departed are believed to return home to spend time with their families. To welcome them\, altars are built with offerings that each carry meaning: \nCandles to guide the souls to the altar \nMarigolds (cempasúchil)\, the flower of the dead for the Aztecs. Its name comes from the Nahuatl for “twenty flowers\,” and its golden petals were said to hold the warmth of the sun \nWater to quench the thirst of souls after their long journey \nIncense to mark the passage from life to death and keep away unwelcome spirits \nPan de muerto\, a sweet bread that honors the generosity of the family \nFavorite foods and drinks to delight the departed \nPhotographs of the loved ones being honored \nSugar skulls (calaveras)\, sometimes inscribed with a loved one’s name\, as playful reminders that life and death live side by side \nOur Celebration\nWe’ll gather for a cacao ceremony and a traditional Mexica Día de los Muertos celebration centered around a three-tiered altar. Place photos of your family members and beloved pets on the altar\, along with food offerings for your loved ones. The evening includes ceremonial smudging and live music. \nWhat to bring: \nCandles and marigolds \nPhotos of your loved ones who have passed \nFood offerings for your loved ones \nA ceremonial cup or your favorite drinking cup \nTraditional ceremonial or Mexica attire is welcome\, and you’re invited to paint your face as a sugar skull. \nCome as you are\, wherever you are in your connection with your transcended loved ones and leave feeling held by community and ancestral love. \nWe are offering this on sliding scale contribution to support celebration materials\, cacao\, decorations and the team.

SUMMARY:icchā at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:Often the things we desire are not ours. \nIn Hindu philosophy\, vasanas are unfulfilled longings that survive the death of the physical body\, passed down through bloodlines as living\, present icchā / desire. \nicchā is contemporary kathak work weaving original music\, set design\, a communal Gujarati folk form called garba. Barkha is visited by her maternal ancestors in a dream. They choose her to express\, release\, and fulfill their desires: born from survival\, loss\, intimacy\, violence\, the denial of dance and embodied selfhood. \nMatrilineages are most often the unnamed\, interrupted\, and absorbed into the histories of patriarchs. The work confronts the body as a site of ancestral history asking: who do we carry within us? This work allows these ancestors to breathe again and ask what in your body might be their unfinished reaching? \nicchā is meant to be a somatic shraadh\, an ancestral reverence of many secret tragedies that have dissolved with passing time. \nDates & Showtimes:\nFriday\, November 13\, 7-8pm\nSaturday\, November 14\, 7-8pm\nSunday\, November 15\, 3-4pm \nMore Info & Tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/iccha

SUMMARY:Beetlejuice Jr @ The Secret Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Secret Theatre presents… Beetlejuice Jr! \nIt’s our show now\, kid. The ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in Beetlejuice JR.\, the frightfully funny musical based on the beloved motion picture turned Broadway phenomenon. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager\, still grieving the loss of her mother and obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia\, she and her father move to a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice\, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. \nWith music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominee Eddie Perfect and a book by Tony Award-nominated pair Anthony King and Scott Brown\, Beetlejuice was nominated for eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best New Musical. A viral “sucks-yes” on social media\, this musical struck a chord with young theatre lovers who adored its unabashed humor and emotional honesty. \nA show for the whole family\, this will be a brilliant show with cast members from The Secret Academy training program!\nThere will be ASL- interpreters on the Nov 21st\, 3pm show.

SUMMARY:Rabbit God: A Queer Chinese Fantasy at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:A new dance work by Jiemin Yang and dancers. \nRabbit God: A Queer Chinese Fantasy is a contemporary dance-theater work rooted in the folklore\, mythology\, and spiritual traditions of Fujian\, China. Blending contemporary dance\, martial arts staff work\, immersive projection\, and theatrical storytelling\, the piece transports audiences into a fantastical world where ancient myth collides with a queer present. \nInspired by the legend of the Rabbit God\, a deity associated with same-sex love in Chinese folklore\, the work follows a journey through friendship\, love\, desire\, identity\, loss\, and redemption — where the boundaries between human\, divine\, and underworld begin to blur. An original sound score and live vocals bring the audience into this world. \nVisually rich and physically dynamic\, the piece combines expressive movement\, martial arts\, and dreamlike projection to create a cinematic stage world — inviting audiences into a universe where forgotten stories are reclaimed and brought back to life. \nContent Advisory: This performance contains mature themes and depictions of violence and may not be suitable for minors. \nThis piece was created during Culture Lab LIC’s 2026 New Works Lab and produced as a part of Culture Lab LIC’s New Works Festival. It is made possible\, in part\, with public funds from the Queens Arts Fund\, a regrant program supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts\, as well as by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. \nThursday\, November 19\, 7:30-8:45pm\nFriday\, November 20\, 7:30-8:45pm\nSaturday\, November 21\, 7:30-8:45pm\nSunday\, Nov 22\, 3-4:15pm \nMore Info & Tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/rabbit-god-queer-chinese-fantasy
