Unfolding as a dance-based\, experiential conversation – between pretty and her younger selves\, her ancestors\, and everybody else in the room – call and response is a kind of casual\, yet devotional\, soirèe or salon or kickback\, with pretty as the host. \nWithin an environment of familiar (and familial) comforts – living room furniture\, record player\, books and plants; all of it bathed in continuous\, deep blue light – call and response doles out laughter and music as soft (and generous) launching points for an experience of memory and reflection that is shared and felt as much as it is witnessed. Peter Douskalis\, Project/Music Director\, plays the laouto\, oud\, mandolin\, and guitar in the group\, switching between the proper instrument as needed for the authentic and modern orchestration of the pieces. Elena Chris\, vocalist and Artistic Director\, sings the traditional songs in the Cypriot dialect of Greek\, as well as in Turkish for songs that contain lyrics in both languages. Other instruments of the group include Alex Tasopoulos\, violin/viola\, and also vary to contrabass\, pithkiavli\, ney\, and percussion. Sounds of Cyprus is an inclusive collective that promotes diversity and positive cultural exchange\, promoting all of the Sounds of Cyprus.  \nPerformances subject to change.
