DESCRIPTION:Humans have accomplished amazing things in our pursuit to understand the universe\, and this program aims to make your learner a part of the story! Snapology’s A Universe of Stories Space Robotics program allows children to explore different aspects of space science and deep space exploration through building robotic models that mimic the concepts that they are investigating. They will discuss the movement of astronomical objects\, the developments in space exploration\, and the past\, present\, and future of space travel.\nWHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN \n• Basic Astronomy\nThis workshop takes a tour of all the planets in our solar system\, examines the concept and importance of constellations\, and closely investigates the other astronomical objects that fill our solar system. Students will discuss these topics with their classmates and a trained Snapologist in order to use those complex concepts to build concrete examples that show their knowledge while providing plenty of space for creativity. You will be amazed at the knowledge your child gains through our hands-on\, student-focused activities! \n• Presentation Skills\nMany school-age students struggle when it comes to their presentation skills in the classroom. Snapology will help your child feel more comfortable presenting in front of a class by having the child explain their unique creations to their peers in an inviting\, low-stakes way. Presenting their creations will help their confidence in front of a group of people and will translate into their everyday self-assurance in the classroom. \n• Teamwork/Partner Skills\nSmall groups and peer partners are key components of Snapology’s classroom approach. We emphasize positive teamwork skills in our programs and diligently work to develop healthy\, respectful collaborations between students. Through group planning\, sharing of materials\, and fun partner experiences\, students become more cognizant of how to interact with their peers in a respectful and productive way.

DESCRIPTION:BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center is excited to present the accomplishments of one its associate artists\, Colin Radcliffe\, upon the release of his new book TO FEEL THESE THINGS. We will be hosting an artist talk on August 24th \, moderated by Christopher Chang and including Justin Liam O’Brien\, followed by a Q&A and book signing.\nDrinks and snacks will be served. \nTO FEEL THESE THINGS is a hybrid between a traditional artist book and an autobiographical memoir spanning 8 years of Colin J. Radcliffe’s personal life and ceramic sculpture. Through a combination of image and text this project explores the dynamics and nuances of contemporary Queer relationships in an increasingly digital world. The book includes over 100 images of the artists’ work\, a foreword written by writer Christopher Llyod Chang\, an essay by contemporary figure painter Justin Liam O’Brien\, and features an interview between Colin J. Radcliffe and Justin Moran\, former editor-in-chief of Paper Magazine. It is a limited edition of 150 books\, each signed and numbered by the artist. The book was made possible in part with funds from the 2023 Queens Art Grant. \nColin J. Radcliffe (b.1994) is a ceramic sculptor based in NYC and Paris. Radcliffe graduated with a B.A. in Studio Arts from Bard College\, and has exhibited work both nationally and internationally. Notable solo and two-person exhibitions include Equity Gallery\, Spring Break Art Fair\, Schlomer Haus Gallery\, and The Java Project. Radcliffe has had work included in group exhibitions at Villa Noailles\, C24 Gallery\, Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery\, Lauren Powell Projects\, Flatland Gallery\, and the Bob Mizer Foundation. Publications that have featured Radcliffe’s work and practice include PAPER Magazine\, Queerty\, Artsy\, FALO\, Whitehot Magazine\, PNPPL Zine\, Friend of the Artist\, and Arcade Project\, among others. His work is included in permanent collections in Belgium\, Brazil\, France\, Germany\, South Africa\, South Korea\, the UK\, and the US. \nColin has been an Associate artist at BrickHouse for six years. BrickHouse offers year-round pottery classes to adults and shelf space to ceramic artists\, for a monthly fee. \nLocated at 10-34 44th Drive\, Long Island City\, Queens\, a two-block walk from the E\, M and G trains at Court Square.
