SUMMARY:Julian Abraham “Togar”
DESCRIPTION:Christian Nyampeta is an artist\, musician\, filmmaker\, and writer. Nyampeta works in New York\, London\, the Netherlands\, and Rwanda\, where he convenes the Nyanza Working Group of ARAC—Another Roadmap School Africa Cluster. *This event coincides with the opening reception for "In Practice: Isabel Mallet." OK Studio Julian Abraham “Togar”’s ongoing "OK Studio" (2020–present) is the core of his exhibition at SculptureCenter. OK Studio describes both a physical place for music and events and a more theoretical space concerned with the function of art in imagining what to do with public space. Set up in SculptureCenter’s lower level galleries\, it is a participatory environment that offers visitors the chance to “co-exercise\, co-experiment\, co-instigate\, co-investigate\, co-practice\, co-produce\, co-distribute” what can be learned through active listening. Since its informal beginnings\, the project has organically evolved and transformed with each iteration\, making the studio\, in the artist’s words\, “an instrument with its own potentiality.”

SUMMARY:A Presentation on Moroccan Ceramics by Artist Davi
DESCRIPTION:The Earth Has Three Colors: A Presentation on Moroccan Ceramics and Book Signing with Artist David Packer\nFriday\, October 27th @ 6pm \nAs part of our Clay Connections series\, BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center will be hosting a lecture and book signing by local artist David Packer\, as he presents his book on Moroccan ceramics. Clay Connections is about sharing food\, information\, and inspiration. Snacks and refreshments will be served. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. \n— \nThe first full-length publication to provide a comprehensive overview of Moroccan ceramics\, The Earth has Three Colors\, traces its history from the rural domestic pottery of the indigenous peoples that inhabit the Rif Mountains\, through 20th century Modernism\, to the contemporary art of Marrakech. The three sections of the book center on the three different clay colors used in Morocco: indigenous red\, traditional gray\, and industrial white. This hardbound edition\, with ten chapters\, written in English with a French translation\, is published for historians\, collectors\, ceramists and travelers: this invaluable survey brings the fascinating and previously hidden history of Moroccan ceramics into the international spotlight for the first time. \nDavid Packer is a New York based artist who often works with ceramics; he was born in England and has lived in the United States since 1983. Packer’s fascination with Moroccan ceramics and the desire to write a book began in Fez in 2011\, when he was a Fulbright scholar. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP online! \nBrickHouse Ceramic Art Center is a fully equipped ceramics studio founded in 2007 by artist and businesswoman Ellen E. Day. BrickHouse offers year-round pottery classes to adults at all skill levels\, hosts visiting artist workshops\, presents handmade pottery for sale\, and rents space to dozens of independent artists.
