SUMMARY:It’s that time of year\, our holiday bash is here!
DESCRIPTION:Fink Bakery was a name virtually every long-term resident of New York City remembers fondly. Headquartered on 54th Avenue near Newtown Creek\, their ubiquitous delivery trucks\, embellished with the logo “Fink Means Good Bread\,” were seen throughout the city. \nAlthough Jim Fink worked in the family’s bread business until the 1970s\, he became a legend through his radio career that began in that decade when he worked for WPLJ and later the ABC Radio Network. Into the 80s and 1990s\, he was at K-Rock\, Rolling Stone Magazine\, HBO\, and on various radio networks and syndicators. Currently at 107.1\, Jimmy Fink will review his radio career and with some photos\, display some rock radio memorabilia that’s part of his extensive collection\, and talk about his time at WPLJ and K-Rock through the end of the last century as well as many rock stars and celebrities he has interviewed – from Paul McCartney to David Bowie to Billy Joel and many others! \nGet your questions ready\, he is looking forward to questions and interacting with the audience on the Zoom call. In his words. “it’ll be fun & interesting and I’m looking forward to it.”

SUMMARY:Show Me Eternity - A New Musical by Dillon & Caps
DESCRIPTION:Show Me Eternity – A New Musical by Dillon & Caps Book & Lyrics by Annie Dillon Music & Lyrics by Samantha Caps Emily Dickinson and Sue Gilbert… a romance hidden for over a century… Tickets available for the following dates: • Monday\, December 4\, 7:30pm Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/show-me-eternity-tickets-748110437457 Show Me Eternity unveils a story that was hidden for over a century: the romance between Emily Dickinson and Sue Gilbert\, who was her brother Austin’s wife. After Emily’s death\, Sue prepares Emily’s work for posthumous publication and enlists the help of Mabel Loomis Todd\, a well-connected young artist with motives of her own. As Sue and Mabel review the late Emily's manuscripts\, they uncover a series of memories that weave a story of everlasting love and difficult choices. Mabel and Sue discover\, just as Emily did throughout her life\, that both authenticity and erasure come at a cost. Show Me Eternity was developed as a part of Culture Lab LIC's 2023 Emergence Artist Residency. Culture Lab LIC is a 501(c)(3) formed to be the arts and culture umbrella for Western Queens. We present local\, national\, and international art of all genres\, while supporting New York artists and other nonprofits by providing space\, resources and a sense of community. This project is supported by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts\, Statewide Community Regrants Program (formerly the Decentralization program) with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and administered by Flushing Town Hall.

SUMMARY:In Other News: Performance and Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Join SculptureCenter for a performance of Tania Pérez Córdova’s (b. 1979\, Mexico City) "In Other News" and a conversation with the artist and exhibition curator Humberto Moro. This program accompanies "Generalization\," Pérez Córdova's first survey in a U.S. institution and the artist's most significant and comprehensive exhibition in the U.S. to date. Pérez Córdova’s "In Other News" (commissioned for her 2022 exhibition at Museo Tamayo\, Mexico City) is a live reading presenting a continuous flow of recent world events\, a collection of headlines rewritten to abstract from any specificity (names\, spaces\, times)\, resulting in a single line that has the tension of a story. The work serves as a review of the world outside of the gallery during the time of her exhibition. It functions as a backdrop to a collective experience which\, as in most of Pérez Córdova’s work\, describes an ongoing narrative that deviates and reconfigures into new forms as it unfolds. At the same time\, the juxtaposition of events\, almost unintentionally\, evinces the contradictory nature of social and political events and their intersections across geographies and socio-political spheres. "Tania Pérez Córdova: Generalization" is currently on view at SculptureCenter through Monday\, December 11. *This program was previously scheduled for Sat\, Nov 4. It has been rescheduled for Thu\, Nov 30. Tania Pérez Córdova’s new monograph will be available in SculptureCenter’s bookstore at a later date. Sponsors Generous support for "Tania Pérez Córdova: Generalization" is provided by Girlfriend Fund. Special thanks to Tina Kim Gallery\, New York. \n

Sundquist is an internationally renowned artist whose works across a variety of media are included in some of the world's most prestigious galleries and museums\, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, Brooklyn Museum\, the Smithsonian\, the White House\, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Sundquist's most recent work has focused on hand-rendered\, detailed architectural drawings\, most notably of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building\, as well as local views of the NYC skyline and the LIC waterfront. Earlier in his career\, especially during the 1980s when he was a featured artist at the Field Gallery in NYC's East Village\, he was a leading painter and collagist during the heyday of that arts community’s unprecedented international\, cultural influence. Less well-known are his images of the Washington\, DC area\, which will be shown here in New York City for the first time in this exhibition. Jack Sunquist will be in attendance for the opening on November 30 at 6 PM. “Jack’s work over the course of many years displays an outstanding depth of creativity across various media\, from original painting and drawings to collages and prints. His newer urban-themed work is immensely engaging\, and his earlier work remains an important representation of the cultural zeitgeist of New York during a period of immense impact on world art and culture\,” Drimer said. “From the perspective of tracking the roots of Long Island City as a now world-recognized vibrant art community\, the Sunquist Retrospective is a ‘must see’ addition to the historic canon\,” she added.
