SUMMARY:Developing Engineers
DESCRIPTION:Drop in Days or Full Term Available \nIs your student inquisitive\, a problem-solver\, a big-thinker\, a tinkerer\, a puzzler\, or a budding engineer? If so\, they’re the perfect fit for Snapology’s Developing Engineers: Mechanical Masterminds program! This program gives your student the tools they need to understand mechanical movement through the foundations of simple machines\, physics\, and engineering design. They will see moving parts up-close as they follow instructions to build various machines\, then use the models to develop new design ideas\, test out physics concepts\, and even play games with their partners and classmates. Whether they are the creative-constructive type or prefer the inquisitive-deconstructive way of learning\, this program is sure to spark their interests! \n \, \, : By following our building instructions and examining the models that are made\, your child will learn how to design simple and complex machines and use things like gears\, pulleys\, wheels & axles\, lever\, and cranks to build their own models. They will learn how different configurations of these parts can create unique movement guided by laws of physics and will be encouraged to experiment with their builds to create new design possibilities. \n : Building a sturdy\, reliable structure is a fundamental aspect of engineering. In this program\, students will explore different methods for creating a model that is both strong and functional. As they face building challenges when testing their designs\, they will be positively encouraged to think critically and use teamwork to solve engineering problems. / : Small groups and peer partners are key components of Snapology’s classroom approach. We emphasize positive teamwork skills in our programs and constantly work to develop healthy\, respectful collaborations between students. Through group planning\, sharing of materials\, and fun partner experiences\, students become more cognizant of how to interact with their peers in a respectful and productive way.

SUMMARY:Real World Robotics
DESCRIPTION:Snapology’s Real World Robotics focuses on the real-life applications of robotics. In this program\, your engineer will explore the basics of robotics while building some amazing & helpful devices with their classmates! They will explore how robots help humans live in the modern world and explore other worlds! While working with a partner to complete various challenges\, your student will be taught how to effectively utilize sensors\, how different mechanical components work in their robots\, and how programming is a challenging but rewarding skill that they can master with just a little practice. We will support them in the development of their coding and building skills and inspire them with creative building challenges. \n : With each new model\, students will be given a program to operate their robotic build. They will learn how to read the program code and then fix an error to make the code useable. By fixing errors in a broken program code\, students will learn how to debug and modify their programs quickly. Whether making their build respond to various sensors\, adding loops and fun sounds\, or modifying variables\, children will learn valuable programming skills through the Scratch-based coding platform. \n : In each activity\, students will be asked to identify the key mechanical components used in each robotic model. They will complete this before they ever build the model so they better understand how the pieces work together in the final design. They will understand the importance and use of motors\, sensors\, gears\, axles\, their robot Hub and so much more. \n : An important component of this program is following verbal and written instructions. Throughout each lesson\, your student will be required to listen\, pick up on routines and follow instructions in order to complete the model and interact with their builds. The best part\, practicing this skill comes easy in this program because your student is having fun and supported each step of the way. \n : Small groups and peer partners are key components of Snapology's educational approach. We emphasize positive teamwork skills and constantly work to develop healthy\, respectful collaborations between students. Through team projects and fun partner experiences\, your student will become more cognizant of how to interact with their peers in a respectful and productive way

SUMMARY:Valerie Green/Dance Entropy premiere RITE at the C
DESCRIPTION:“RITE” is a healing ceremony\, a meditative ritual\, and an exorcism of the ego. \nChoreographed by Artistic Director Valerie Green\, VG/DE’s newest evening length work performed by six men is a physical invocation of our internal struggle with self-image and societal pressure\, and the vulnerable journey from Form to Clarity. The dancers’ instinct drives this powerful\, trance-based dance\, isolating them from one another—they experience both a personal and collective spiritual catharsis. Inspired by shamanic journeying and altered states of consciousness\, “RITE invites us to contemplate our individual struggles and release our attachments to Body and Thought. Join us as we discover what lies beyond our own limitations.. \n"RITE offers an explosive appreciation of the human experience and captures what is trapped within our mind and soul\, giving us an opportunity to reflect and delve into our own struggles and being” \n– Carl Ballenas\, Center at Maple Grove Cemetery

SUMMARY:Take Root Grant Jacoby & Dancers\, Althea Dance Co
DESCRIPTION:March 8th & 9th at 8pm \nAdvance sale tickets: $20 HERE\nTickets purchased at door: $25 cash or card \nAbout the Works: \nGrant Jacoby & Dancers \nThe impetus for softshell was built out of the acknowledgment\, and acceptance\, of the aging dancing body. In particular\, navigating a “post”-pandemic world has created a strange space where deferred dreaming permeates beneath a simmering surface. softshell takes that notion and filters it through the lens of embodied trauma. Sliding the liminal space between joy and sorrow\, pleasure and pain\, the work is a quiet\, queer experiment that seeks no solution. Dancers cohabitate a universal\, yet individualized landscape of symbiotically shared movement language where by design\, no intentional crescendos can be found. Instead\, softshell asks the viewer to slow down alongside it\, embracing its current stasis of intimacy\, and preparing for the inevitable mess that has yet to materialize. \nsoftshell is performed by Tori Breen\, Grant Jacoby\, Sarah Liebau\, Arielle Ridley\, and Anne Tantuico. Music is by Michael Wall. The work was made possible thanks to support from the Monira Foundation\, Dance Local\, Center for Dance Arts\, and Morven Museum & Garden. \n  \nAlthea Dance Company \nLazar is a duet choreographed by Thea Bautista based on an extract from a novel written by the French author Olivier Benyahya. While the music was composed using the text\, the movement is inspired by the words and plays with the musicality and the rhythm the text creates. The novel becomes a visual and sound experience in which words translate into movements. \nThe work was partly created in 2017 and 2019 during two residencies in Oaxaca and was composed of dance and literature.
