SUMMARY:LIC Summit: Ideas and Impacts
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of business leaders\, city and state officials\, LIC stakeholders and residents gathered on Tuesday\, June 21st at the Museum of the Moving Image for the Long Island City Partnership’s third annual LIC Summit:\, Ideas and Impacts. Co-hosted for the third year in a row by Modern Spaces and The Queens Courier\, the summit featured a series of panels that addressed topics ranging from the next wave of development to LIC as an evolving fashion district. The day-long summit kicked off with remarks from the hosts and a special preview of the Partnership’s new comprehensive plan for Long Island City. The plan\, which evolved from surveying over 500 businesses and local industry-specific focus groups\, addresses recommendations for policy\, investment and transportation issues in Long Island City. The LIC Summit’s keynote panel\, moderated by Long Island City Partnership President Elizabeth Lusskin\, tackled the topic of growth\, addressed job creation in LIC and touched on the industries slated to bring the most opportunity to the area. Keynote panelists included: Maria Torres-Springer\, president and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation; Kathryn Wylde\, president and CEO of Partnership for New York City; and Howard Zemsky\, president\, CEO and commissioner of Empire State Development. Carl Weisbrod\, NYC Department of City Planning & NYC City Planning Commission\, delivered a keynote address to close the Summit in the afternoon. Additional panels during the Summit covered topics like the growing workforce in Long Island City and the evolution of the neighborhood’s transit.
