SUMMARY:Godzilla Vs. MoMI
DESCRIPTION:November 1 – November 3 \nFirst appearing in the 1954 Toho classic Gojira\, Godzilla has reigned as King of the Monsters for 70 years. Inspired by American films like King Kong and The Beast from 20\,000 Fathoms\,this first film stood out from most contemporary Western science fiction films for the bleak tone captured in Ishiro Honda’s direction and Eiji Tsuburaya’s spectacular special effects\,which would revolutionize the tokusatsu genre in Japan.  After the success of Gojira\, Tohowould revive Godzilla for 32 sequels\, over the course of which\, the kaiju would evolve into a hero (and back to villain again) and fight opponents who’d become icons in their own right. As Godzilla celebrates 70 years\, this series surveys the character’s legacy\, presenting the 1954 original and significant sequels in the franchise that helped establish Godzilla as one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture. \nGodzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla\, Mothra Vs. Godzilla\, Ghidorah\, The Three-Headed Monster\, and The Return of Godzilla are suitable for children ages 8+. Parental discretion is advised for Gojira and Godzilla Minus One. \n

SUMMARY:Halloween Movies: The Seventh Victim & The Fog
DESCRIPTION:REVERSE SHOT PRESENTS: TWO GREAT PUMPKINS  \nEvery October since 2006\, MoMI’s house publication for criticism\, Reverse Shot\, has provided an annual week-long lineup of short essays celebrating seven great scary movies titled A Few Great Pumpkins. This Halloween\, we present three classic American horror movies from past Pumpkins. A two-fer of John Carpenter’s 1980 The Fog and Val Lewton/Mark Robson’s 1943 The Seventh Victim\, both of which brilliantly use off-screen space to create their terrifyingly atmospheric worlds. In The Fog (the first “Great Pumpkin” ever written about in Reverse Shot)\, a small California seaside town is menaced by an age-old curse; in The Seventh Victim\, a young woman tries to track down her missing sister and discovers she has been taken in by a cabal of secret Satanists. Bleak and beautiful\, these are magnificently sinister films featuring breathtakingly evocative cinematography.  \nThe Fog and The Seventh Victim screen October 31 and November 1 at Museum of the Moving Image; see them separately or buy a combo ticket.

SUMMARY:Building a Better World | Robotics Camp
DESCRIPTION:Today we are inspired by the Juneteenth holiday\, how the world has become a better place since this date\, and how we can continue to improve – in whatever way that means to you! In Snapology's Building a Better World program\, children are challenged to think critically about the world around them. As students identify problems\, they will think creatively about how they can use technology to inspire change. Building a Better World takes advantage of easy-to-use computer software to build and program their revolutionary creations. Your child will learn the fundamentals of programming while navigating through programming instructions to make their inventions come alive. Students will work in groups to create robotic models that help to better the world. When creating without instructions\, children are challenged to think creatively both on a large and small scale. As they brainstorm the purpose of their model and troubleshoot building issues\, they will practice crucial problem solving and critical thinking skills. Your child is sure to have a blast as they build\, learn\, and play! \nWHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN \n• Computer Skills: Building a Better World takes advantage of easy-to-use computer software to build and program their revolutionary creations. SUMMARY:Wonderful World of Wizards (Harry Potter Inspired)
DESCRIPTION:Ages 5-12 \nEnter the world of wizards and witches in Snapology's Wizarding program\, inspired by Harry Potter and other amazing wizards. In this program\, your child will be inundated by magical places like Hogwarts\, by creating castles and undergoing a special ceremony where they are sorted and use their own imagination to create secret rooms and a coat of arms! This class will spark their imaginations and encourage creative reasoning in new ways\, allowing them to build amazing things they have only dreamed of before! They’ll enjoy themselves so much\, you might think we have them under a spell! \nWHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN \n• Building a Stable Structure: Building a sturdy\, reliable structure is a fundamental aspect of engineering. In this program\, students will explore different methods for creating a brick model that is both\nstrong and functional. As they are given new building projects to complete\, they will be positively encouraged to think critically and use teamwork to solve engineering and design problems.\n• Creativity: Snapology’s Wonderful Wizards program encourages students to embrace their imagination and create familiar items with a unique\, personalized twist. By using visual aids\, holding creative classroom brainstorming sessions\, and providing basic building parameters\, students will be supported as they take creative risks and guided when they aren’t sure what to build next.\n• Presentation Skills & Cooperative Play: Presenting in front of others can be a stressful and overwhelming experience for young children\, but our program aims to help your child feel more comfortable when presenting in front of a class by having them explain their builds to peers in a safe and supportive way. When they’re not presenting they will be combining their individual builds and working with class to create a larger class creation that requires teamwork\, critical thinking\, and communication. Without communicating\, asking questions\, showing empathy and patience for their peers they will not be able to achieve group builds. \n : Drop off begins each day at 8:30am. For maximum efficiency\, we ask you to be punctual at arrival and dismissal times. Campers are required to bring in their own lunch\, 1 snack\, and a drink every day. Please pack lunches in paper bags or lunch coolers and put the child’s name on each bag. Snapology Day Camp is a “nut sensitive” environment. As we have several students with food allergies\, no peanut or tree nut products are permitted. Weather pending\, we will take the students to Murray Park mid morning to shake out the wiggles and play in the sunshine. The walk is about 4 minutes however if you would rather your child stay in the studio\, kindly let us know. Please view our Summer Camp Webpage for a hourly breakdown of activities.
