SUMMARY:Modern Ink: Crossing Media\, Blending Cultures at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Thursday\, February 5\, 6 – 9pm\nOn view February 6 – March 29 during gallery hours:\nThursday & Friday\, 5-9pm\, and Saturday & Sunday\, 2-9pm \nVisual art has been an essential component of human civilization for more than 3\,500 years. From the earliest ancient Greek palace murals to contemporary artistic practices\, art like language\, music\, and theater has evolved through ongoing cultural exchange. Art reflects human thought and artworks shape society; when these forces converge\, they generate profound creative energy. \nInk is the soul of Chinese art. In celebration of the 2026 Chinese New Year\, Culture Lab LIC presents Modern Ink: Crossing Media\, Blending Cultures\, a group exhibition of contemporary Chinese artists. The five participating artists each possess a distinctive style and unique artistic language. Through their works\, audiences can hear a voice that traverses Eastern and Western artistic media\, integrates the essence of both cultures\, and resonates with the pulse of contemporary society; they can also see conceptual expressions that range from the concentrated spirit of Chinese calligraphy and expressions to the Wall Street Series\, which is deeply connected to the realities of modern life. \nDrawing on years of artistic practice\, the artists reveal both their personal creative pursuits and broader cultural concerns. These works invite viewers into a multilayered aesthetic experience while encouraging reflection on classical and contemporary art\, Eastern and Western traditions\, and the human condition of our time. \nArtists:\nLi Geng\nWang Houtang\nGan Yu\nQin Feng\nBian Hong \nCurator: Ethan Cohen\nAssistant Curators: Chere Hong and Jessica Yang\nAcademic Host: Tess Howsam and Gan Yu\nFull support from Culture Lab LIC\, New York \nGenerous sponsorship from Kung-Fu Ink\, Inc.\, New York \nFree Admission. Donations Welcome. \nhttps://www.culturelablic.org/#modern-ink

SUMMARY:Weapons of Mass Seduction at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:June 11-21 \nUnder an even more Trump-than-Trump president — the bombastic Karen Blare — the United States is waging a “culture war” against its new enemy: woke Canada. Determined to win the fight without casualties (or headlines)\, Blare demands a new kind of non-lethal weapon. Her loyal but dim-witted General Fardmann has the perfect idea: resurrect the long-rumored “Gay Bomb.” \nTo make it work\, they must thaw out Professor. Victor Vexx — a brilliant\, genderfluid chemical weapons scientist frozen since the summer of love in 67 — and assign CIA agent Valerie Steele to keep them in check. \nBut as Vexx sets their sights on sparking a queer revolution from within\, Blare’s administration prepares to test the bomb on a small conservative Southern town. When the plan leaks\, chaos erupts. Glitter flies\, loyalties shift\, and the battle lines between repression and liberation blur in an explosion of camp\, color\, and chemical warfare. \nThis piece detonates a glittery critique of military machismo\, political hypocrisy\, and homophobia — flipping the script so that queer people aren’t the victims of the system\, but the ones who joyfully\, fabulously\, and furiously blow it up from the inside. \nShowtimes & Buy Tickets:\nhttps://www.culturelablic.org/#weapons-of-mass-seduction

SUMMARY:No Country for Mothers Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:SAITH is hosting a screening of Moms First’s new documentary\, No Country for Mothers\, a film that explores the culture wars surrounding American motherhood and the labels that distract us from the real issue: the lack of support for American families. \nFollowing activist Reshma Saujani\, the film charts a growing national movement to reunite moms across divisions and win the kind of historic support families actually need. \nSAITH is a M/WBE certified business intelligence\, data management\, and strategic advisory firm that helps organizations turn complex information into clear direction\, stronger performance\, and measurable growth. \nThe SAITH Free to Gather Fund\, supports access to community\, culture\, dialogue\, and opportunity by helping provide free and reduced-cost admission for attendees. As Associate Producers\, we are proud to host this screening and conversation at Stuart Cinema & Cafe\, Long Island City’s newest mom-owned theater and gathering space. \nThe evening will include a post-screening panel discussion featuring special guests whose voices will help deepen the conversation around motherhood\, caregiving\, work\, leadership\, and community. \nPlease join us for a meaningful evening of film\, reflection\, and connection.

SUMMARY:COVER COLLAGE & MEMORY MIXTAPE WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by COVERS BY MP3\, this playful\, hands-on workshop invites participants to create a mini CD keychain with a shareable memory playlist\, paired with a self-designed album cover. \nCOVERS BY MP3 is a multimedia community arts project that documents stories from the Korean diaspora through music\, memory\, and recreated album covers featuring participants in place of the original artists. \nIn this workshop\, participants will build a playlist of the music that has shaped their lives and collage an album cover inspired by the memories it evokes. Their design will then be transformed into a mini CD keychain that links to the playlist\, allowing their personal soundtrack to be shared at the tap of a phone. \nParticipants are welcome to bring 1–2 photos to scan and add to their collage. \nThis program is made possible in part with public funds from the Queens Arts Fund\, a re-grant program supported by New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts. \nIt is also made possible through the generous support of the Queens Public Library.
