SUMMARY:SculptureCenter Opening Reception | to ignite our skin
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an opening reception celebrating SculptureCenter’s fall exhibition\, “to ignite our skin.” \n“to ignite our skin”\nOn View Sep 18–Dec 22\, 2025 \n“to ignite our skin” features newly commissioned and recent works from an international group of artists whose contributions\, spanning sculpture\, installation\, photography\, and architectural intervention\, explore shedding as a condition of the body today\, locating it as an act of transition\, becoming\, regeneration\, and refusal. \nTaking precarious sculpture as the departure point\, the exhibition features works that are texturally layered and pieced together from a hybrid of materials weathered by or forged through the body: worn clothes\, collected debris\, scavenged organic matter\, tattered construction material\, remnants of military ware\, or AI-generated—discarded\, found\, recovered\, composed\, and rewrought into embodiments of the in-between. \nParticipating artists include Patricia Ayres\, Elaine Cameron-Weir\, Sarah Friend\, Mire Lee\, Umico Niwa\, Mimi Park\, Ana Raylander Mártis dos Anjos\, Sofia Sinibaldi\, Erik Tlaseca\, and Yu Ji. \n“to ignite our skin” is curated by Jovanna Venegas\, Curator.

SUMMARY:Artist Conversation | "to ignite our skin"
DESCRIPTION:Join exhibition curator Jovanna Venegas and the participating artists of “to ignite our skin” for an intimate and layered conversation tracing the ideas that shaped the exhibition and works on view. Through poetic fragments\, including short texts\, images\, videos\, and sound clips\, the artists will unfold the research\, resonance\, and impulses behind their contributions. \nThis will be followed by a dialogue among the artists\, touching on the threads of the exhibition: the body’s condition as it sheds\, transitions\, regenerates\, and reconstitutes itself into new iterations. \nFor more information on the exhibition\, please visit: https://www.sculpture-center.org/exhibitions/14518/to-ignite-our-skin

SUMMARY:Take Root Presents: Felicia B Avalos | Alicia Soto
DESCRIPTION:September 19th & 20th at 8:00 PM\nTickets are $22 online\, $25 at the door. \nFelicia B Avalos | The Gods Are Laughing At Us: The Ongoing Water Crisis in México\nThe Gods Are Laughing At Us: The Ongoing Water Crisis in México was created during the Unity Space AiR in Melbourne\, Australia in 2017. This project focuses on different aspects of the water crisis from a fusion of a rain dance with a Muay Thai boxing ritual fighters practice in the ring before a match\, to how the drought affects a farmer’s crops\, to the sinking of Mexico City. During the residency\, Avalos trained in MMA to merge fighting techniques and contemporary dance to share this topic. This research is to honor Tenochtitlan\, the capital of the Aztec Empire\, before it was conquered by the Spanish\, and to Tláloc\, the Aztec rain god. \nAlicia Soto | And You\, Who Do You Bring?\nAnd You\, Who Do You Bring? is a transdisciplinary laboratory-performance combining theater\, dance\, and music. This project is a unique experience of gathering\, collective creation\, and expression—an artistic celebration of identity and memory\, of the body and imagination\, of exchange and transformation. Thirteen NYC-based performers and community members join this collaboration with Alicia Soto and Dance Entropy’s Artistic Director\, Valerie Green.

SUMMARY:Fiber of Being: A Fiber Art Exhibition a Culture Lab LIC - Opening Reception Thursday\, September 25\, 6pm at Culture Lab LIC
DESCRIPTION:“Fiber of Being” explores the enduring significance of fiber art in contemporary life. This exhibition explores how textiles\, with their rich histories of handcraft and cultural storytelling\, continue to be profoundly relevant—bridging the physical and the virtual\, the traditional and the contemporary. \nHow does fiber art assert material presence in an increasingly immaterial world? Fiber is not just a medium but a metaphor for the interconnected threads of existence\, weaving together the past\, present\, and the future. \nThis exhibition presents artwork asserting the importance of touch\, material intelligence\, and the act of “making” in an age of hyper-connectivity and digital abstraction. \nA juried textile art group show collaboratively organized by Textile Study Group of New York (TSGNY) and Culture Lab LIC. \nOpening Reception: Thursday\, September 25\, 6-9pm \nOn view: September 25 – November 2 during gallery hours\, Thursday & Friday\, 5-9pm\, and Saturday & Sunday\, 2-9pm. \nFree Admission. \nhttps://www.culturelablic.org/artist-opportunities#fiber-of-being

SUMMARY:Samuel Beckett's Happy Days at Culture Lab LIC - September - October\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Winnie is literally and figuratively stuck in place\, using humor and memory to keep her fears at bay in the face of an uncertain future. \n“Oh\, this is going to be a happy day! Another happy day!” So announces Winnie as she begins another day in Samuel Beckett’s absurdly profound and darkly comic masterpiece\, HAPPY DAYS. Clinging desperately to the ephemeral presence of her husband Willie as memories surface and stories repeat\, Winnie tries to maintain a normal life in a strange new world. She soldiers on\, no matter what… fighting the emptiness both within and around her. \nSamuel Beckett’s Happy Days\nStarring Pamela Rickard & Stephen Wangh\nDirected by David Grove \nFriday\, September 26\, 7:30pm\nSaturday\, September 27\, 7:30pm\nFriday\, October 3\, 7:30pm\nSaturday\, October 4\, 7:30pm \nTickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/samuel-becketts-happy-days-tickets-1508191444209
