SUMMARY:Bonsai Beginner Workshop at Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden
DESCRIPTION:Beginner workshops are perfect for you to grab your friends\, grab a drink and come make tiny trees! We’re bringing the awesome art of bonsai out of the hedged in gardens and into the streets! Or at least into your favorite bars/breweries/pubs. Bonsai Bar is a night of fun you don’t want to miss. Learn the fundamental skills and techniques behind the art of bonsai while enjoying a night out with friends! Our teachers will introduce core concepts and guide your experience as you pot\, prune\, and design your very own bonsai tree! Our Guarantee: These tiny trees are so hardy we guarantee you can keep yours alive\, or we’ll replace it. \nThis workshop will be hosted at Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden. Many Czechs and Slovaks in the 1800s left Austria-Hungary\, settling in Astoria\, Queens. In 1892\, they formed the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society to honor the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia (now the Czech Republic). Funds were raised and in 1910 two lots were purchased for a haven to maintain traditions of the homeland. On Oct. 1\, 1910\, Bohemian Hall's cornerstone was laid. Three parts were built: an entrance\, Sokol Gym (Main Hall)\, and outside Bar/Park. At one time\, over 800 beer gardens were still in NYC\, and Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden remains today to keep the proud tradition alive into the new millennium! \nUnder 21 policy: Please contact Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden for details regarding underage entry \nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/bohemian-hall-beer-garden \n  \nHappens on the following Dates: \n\nJan 15\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nJan 29\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nFeb 12\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nFeb 26\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nMar 12\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST\nMar 26\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST

SUMMARY:Hourglass
DESCRIPTION:"Hourglass" is an ongoing research and performance work by Philadelphia-based juggler Luther Bangert\, in residency at 3AM Theatre. The piece investigates the ways in which we experience\, visualize\, and encounter temporality throughout life and consciousness. Time and how we relate to it is explored through interaction between an open hourglass\, the body\, the sand\, and the consistent tension of time running out. The show is approximately 40 minutes and is suitable for all ages. Show times are at 7pm on January 17th & 18th.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception | In Practice: Anita Esfandiari
DESCRIPTION:Join SculptureCenter for an opening reception on Wednesday\, January 22\, 6-9pm to celebrate the debut of In Practice: Anita Esfandiari (on view January 23 – February 3\, 2025). \nAnita Esfandiari’s sculptures engage with diverse mediums\, mirroring the inherent socio-political\, micro\, and macroeconomic conditions that shape everyday reality. Her new work for SculptureCenter will juxtapose the materiality of Euro and Iranian Rial coins\, highlighting the drastic fluctuations and dramatic inequality in the two currency values over the last years. \nAbout In Practice\nEach year\, In Practice invites artists who have not yet had an institutional solo exhibition in New York City to submit proposals for solo exhibitions in designated gallery spaces at SculptureCenter. Artists are also invited to propose off-site projects\, publishing initiatives\, performances\, and nontraditional formats\, which will be considered based on feasibility. For more information on In Practice\, please visit our website.

This experience leaves participants feeing expanded and curious about their emotions\, with new insights to move forward from. \nEach movement journey is handcrafted to best support the participants. For as long as I can remember\, I’ve wanted to set a table that felt safe\, welcoming\, and warm. The world of craft beer can be intimidating for many\, myself included. The Greats of Craft (GoC) was borne from a desire to create something centered around exploring new experiences collaboratively. Friends and family came together to help build the literal and figurative foundations of our shop. Still to this day\, you’ll likely run into a family member working behind the bar or a close friend starting the day with a cup of coffee or enjoying a drink in the evening. I’ve always admired artists and creatives who are passionate about their work\, and I wanted GoC to also represent artisans and entrepreneurs who have taken the same leap of faith as I did. Regardless if you’re pulling up a chair or ordering online\, you can trust we only set our tables with items and goodies of the finest quality. Whether you first stopped at GoC to attend one of our events\, pick up a gift\, drink your morning cappuccino\, or just catch up with friends over drinks\, you’ll always have a seat at our table. \n\n\n\nUnder 21 policy: Please contact The Greats of Craft – LIC for details regarding underage entry \n\n\n\nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/the-greats-of-craft-lic \n\n\n\nHappens on the following Dates: \n\n\n\nMar 27\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST \n\n\n\nJan 30\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST \n\n\n\nFeb 13\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST \n\n\n\nFeb 27\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST \n\n\n\nMar 13\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EST

SUMMARY:ASMA Guest Performances and Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join artist duo ASMA for a book launch followed by guest performances that animate the theatrical setting of their SculptureCenter exhibition Ideal Space for Music. \nASMA’s recent publication Ibidem is an artist book made in collaboration with designer Olga Borda\, as the fourth edition of the annual magazine series Obra. It includes fragmented research citations and installation images of their recent exhibitions: Wander & Pursuit (2022)\, Inverse Sátiro Envy (2023)\, Blind Sun Rests in Desire (2023)\, and their SculptureCenter exhibition\, plus a commissioned text by Reilly Davidson. \nFollowing the launch\, the event will move to SculptureCenter’s lower level\, where artist and ventriloquist Sophie Becker energizes and gives new life to ASMA’s ball-jointed dolls. The event will culminate in a full-room sound activation by Esra Canoğulları (8ulentina) made in dialogue with ASMA. \nPlease RSVP here. \n_________________ \nASMA is a Mexico City-based artist duo formed by Matias Armendaris and Hanya Beliá. Their work uses allegorical figures and evocative architectural spaces\, exploring formal interrelations between painterly and sculptural expressions. They employ fictional narratives that include forms of nature interwoven with psychoaffective contemporary landscapes. As a result of a collaborative process\, the work focuses on hybrid and polluted forms\, both in a material and conceptual nature. They explore a nostalgic revisitation of the past through a metamodern lens that oscillates between critical discourses of identity and belonging and ornate formal explorations of beauty. \nASMA’s recent solo exhibitions include Inverse Sátiro Envy I & II\, PEANA\, Mexico City; Blind Sun Rests in Desire\, Everyday Gallery\, Antwerp\, BEL; The Last of Animal Builders\, Edith Farnsworth House\, Illinois\, US; Wander & Pursuit\, House of Gaga\, Los Angeles; Vermin Gloom\, Project Pangeé\, Montreal; Vain Kisses to the Source\, Deli Gallery\, New York; Janus\, Embajada\, San Juan\, PR; Half Blood Princess\, PEANA\, Monterrey\, MX; Blossoming Carcass\, Make Room\, Los Angeles. Recent group show exhibitions include Who Tells a Tale Adds a Tail\, Denver Art Museum\, Denver; OTRXS MUNDXS\, Museo Tamayo\, Mexico City; and Anima Mundi\, Manifiesta 13\, Marseille\, FR. \nObra is an annual magazine—an archive of visual expressions generating a record of young and established practices from Latin America and the world through the printed format. Founded and established in Basel\, Switzerland\, and distributed globally. \nSophie Becker is an artist and ventriloquist based in New York City. She has performed with her Jerry Mahoney figure at MoMA PS1\, NADA Miami\, Art Omi\, Rockaway Film Festival\, Chez Bushwick's RECESS Programming\, Pageant Space\, Blade Study Gallery\, and Theatre 80 St Marks\, among others. \nEsra Canoğullari\, also known as 8ULENTINA\, is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist\, music producer\, and DJ. Renowned for his dynamic DJ sets and genre-defying compositions\, Canoğullari’s projects are characterized by percussive intensity and diasporic storytelling. Canoğullari cofounded CLUB CHAI (2016–21)\, a record label and curatorial platform\, with Lara Sarkissian and currently runs SILLAGE\, a platform for contemporary sonic artifacts.
