SUMMARY:New Material Night: A Standup Comedy Show!
DESCRIPTION:Every 2nd and 4th Thursday\, comedian Lauren Hope Krass (Betches Media\, HBO Women In Comedy Festival) and Dan Frank (New York Comedy Festival\, PN & Friends) are bringing together New York’s funniest comics to test out their newest bits. Before a joke appears on a televised special or on an album\, it lives a fascinating life of twists and turns. The rules are simple: Laugh if it's funny… And maybe politely fake laugh a little if it’s not because hey\, trying new things is hard! This show is a favorite of Time Out New York and you just can’t bottle the infectious energy that erupts every single show. This is a guaranteed good time for a solo outing\, date night or group hang. We of course also highly recommended this show to all our beloved Astoria comedy nerds. This is where the magic happens!

SUMMARY:Looper
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a night of improv comedy at Court Square Theater in LIC\, Queens. \nThe show will kick off with musical comedian Ben Hawes singing funny & relatable songs about being gay & single in NYC\, the awkwardness of his high school years\, and the current affairs of the ridiculous world we live in. \nNext up\, a mash-up improv team of guest performers! \nThen\, cast members of the podcast 'Sounds Funny Radio' have been given a day pass to leave the recording studio. And they chose to spend it on stage doing improv! Unplugged and off the record\, witness the talent pool that Chartable.com calls "Somewhere between #24 and #180 on the Apple Podcasts United States of America Improv chart". \nYour headliner for the evening is Looper – an improvised scene on repeat. This ensemble of actors will take you on a surreal journey as they create a copy of a copy\, indulge in their failures\, and spiral into absurdity and madness. \nThis in-person event promises to have you rolling with laughter from start to finish. Don't miss out on the chance to see Looper live on stage!

SUMMARY:Masters of Disguise
DESCRIPTION:Artego Gallery is pleased to announce Masters of Disguise\, an exhibition featuring three contemporary Korean photographers whose practices revolve around masquerading in self-portraits: Chan-Hyo Bae\, Jung S Kim\, and Youngho Kang. These artists investigate hybridization of cultures in our age of globalization. Employing masquerade to explore their individual personas\, they design props\, costumes\, make-up\, and hairdos to create staged images. Fluidity and artificiality\, as manifested by ever-changing appearances\, draw attention to the superficiality of biological and cultural markers. By blurring the boundaries of gender and race\, these artists challenge and destabilize conventional notions of culture\, race\, and gender as determinants of personal identity. \n

SUMMARY:Building a Better World | Robotics Camp
DESCRIPTION:Today we are inspired by the Juneteenth holiday\, how the world has become a better place since this date\, and how we can continue to improve – in whatever way that means to you! In Snapology's Building a Better World program\, children are challenged to think critically about the world around them. As students identify problems\, they will think creatively about how they can use technology to inspire change. Building a Better World takes advantage of easy-to-use computer software to build and program their revolutionary creations. Your child will learn the fundamentals of programming while navigating through programming instructions to make their inventions come alive. Students will work in groups to create robotic models that help to better the world. When creating without instructions\, children are challenged to think creatively both on a large and small scale. As they brainstorm the purpose of their model and troubleshoot building issues\, they will practice crucial problem solving and critical thinking skills. Your child is sure to have a blast as they build\, learn\, and play! \nWHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN \n• Computer Skills: Building a Better World takes advantage of easy-to-use computer software to build and program their revolutionary creations. SUMMARY:jess pretty - call and response
DESCRIPTION:In call and response\, jess pretty wraps her audience in a conceptual\, and literal\, embrace. Unfolding as a dance-based\, experiential conversation – between pretty and her younger selves\, her ancestors\, and everybody else in the room – call and response is a kind of casual\, yet devotional\, soirèe or salon or kickback\, with pretty as the host. \nWithin an environment of familiar (and familial) comforts – living room furniture\, record player\, books and plants; all of it bathed in continuous\, deep blue light – call and response doles out laughter and music as soft (and generous) launching points for an experience of memory and reflection that is shared and felt as much as it is witnessed. It endeavors to slow down the room; and invites us to join in the attempt. \nChoreographer / Performer: jess pretty. Creative Interlocutors: keyon gaskin & Niall Jones. Lighting Design / Tech Support / Set Design: Maggie Heath. DJ / Sound Practitioner: Tyler Hughley / DJ Luccihugh. Sound Consultant: Jeremy Touissaint-Baptiste.
